David Winegar – Fine Art Photography

Welcome to Park City Photography

My name is David Winegar, and I create photographic art to elevate the spaces where you live and work.

My work

I have a large selection of Park City landscapes and local wildlife images that showcase the reasons we live here, and why we love calling this place home. Life Elevated… as we say in Park City —-my home since 1990.

You’ll also find galleries on this website featuring places I’m deeply passionate about—the great American West. From dramatic red rock landscapes to rugged alpine wilderness, these are the open spaces where my spirit comes alive. Highlights include Mirror Lake Highway and the Uinta Mountains, Yellowstone, the Tetons, Arches National Park, Moab, Canyonlands, and the wild horse herds that roam the deserts of Utah and Colorado.

My Philosophy

I’m an unapologetic environmentalist and a believer in the wisdom of John Muir, father of our National Parks. I hold to the idea that open spaces, fresh air, and undeveloped wilderness are essential to our physical and mental well-being. We are killing ourselves and our wildlife with unbridled development. Art leads to lower stress levels, reduced anxiety and a better well being according to multiple scientific studies regarding arts beneficial effect mood from a release of endorphins.

Caution —-Website Construction Zone - Don’t trip!

My website will soon have a gallery devoted entirely to Black and White Art where the story, the scene, light and shadow, shapes, and texture take center stage. These pieces carry a vintage and timeless spirituality.

My Street Scenes gallery will be expanded due to popular demand with a larger collection of life unscripted. As a street photographer, I’ve spent hours—sometimes entire days—wandering the streets of America and International destinations seeking out the spontaneous moments of everyday life. My image “Better and Better,” earned International First Place – Outstanding Accomplishment in the “People category” at the prestigious International Masters of Color Awards.

Final Thoughts - And thanks!

My hope is that you’ll find an image that speaks to you—maybe it reminds you of a place you’ve been or stirs a meaningful memory. If one of these pieces resonates, I’d be honored to have it become a lasting part of your home.

I’m truly grateful you’re here, and I hope you enjoy the visit.

What Makes Me Different

Museum Quality Artwork

Artwork Crafted with archival materials and expert craftsmanship worthy of museum exhibition. An example follows…

For two consecutive years I have been honored to have been picked by jurors for the Springville Museum of Art’s - Spring Salon. The Salon is one of Americas longest-running and most competitive juried art exhibitions built in 1922. Over the past 101 years the Salons annual competition includes legendary greats such as Georgia O'Keeffe, Norman Rockwell, Maynard Dixon, and Walt Disney. While not at this level, I am deeply honored to be “hanging out” in this company.

The jurors selected my large-format Museum Acrylic Chromogenic Prints (Silver Halide) as follows (see images above)

  • Spring Salon 100 (2024): First Snow on Fall Leaves – La Sal Range near Moab, Utah (40" × 60")

  • Spring Salon 101 (2025): When the Leaves Are Gone – East Canyon Sunrise (40" × 60")

Be an Educated Collector – Buyer Beware

Today, not every photograph shows what was truly in front of the lens. With AI and digital manipulation, many images are now entirely fabricated—often without disclosure. This misleads buyers and creates an unfair playing field for photographers like me who value authenticity.

Nearly all of my work follows the principles of Straight Photography—real moments, real places, and natural light, captured as I experienced them.

Rarely, I also explore Fine Art Photography, where I create imaginative scenes that aren’t possible otherwise. These images will be indicated on my website.

I’m not against creative tools or artistic vision that departs from Straight Photography—but you should know what you're buying. Truth and transparency matters when you are spending your hard-earned money.

A few of my favorite scenes follow

Ancient Bristlecone Pine

The gnarled, sculpted trees found in the heights of western U.S. mountains are among the oldest living organisms on Earth and are a favorite subject of mine. My most cherished Bristlecone has stood on a cliff overlooking Dead Horse Basin for over 1,000 years. I have photographed this tree no less than twelve times over three years, capturing its beauty in all seasons. In this particular scene, it is 3 A.M. on a cold January night, for a final "selfie," joining the vastness of both space and time. With no moon in the sky, a long exposure reveals the millions of stars that aren't visible to the naked eye.

Leap of Faith

The image above took First Place in "Wildlife" at the prestigious Art Wolfe International Photography Competition. After weeks of observation, I captured this Red Fox (Park City, Utah), exploding over McCleod Creek with two Uintah Ground Squirrels in her mouth. The creek was overflowing its banks during heavy spring runoff and the fox landed safely on the far shore.

Winter Dreams- Utah Wild Mustangs

Two white Mustangs stand like frozen statues in an eternal sleep, enduring a brutal winter in the badlands of Utah. Capturing this scene requires challenging photography in deep snow, as I navigate the vast West Desert of Utah in a four-wheel drive vehicle and snowshoe my way to the wild Mustangs.

Full Moon Rising Over McPolin Barn

In the fall of 2020, Saturn was prominently visible in the southwest sky during its conjunction with Jupiter, coinciding with the rising of a full moon. The iconic "White Barn" is the most recognized landmark in Park City. This scene features rich dark tones and a striking moonrise, captured using two exposures with different lenses to create a composite image for an artistic expression. My goal was to evoke a sense of magical serenity and peacefulness.

When The Leaves Are Gone - East Canyon Sunrise

It was late fall when I arrived at the saddle of East Canyon, where the breathtaking aspens were illuminated by the early morning light. The large stand of aspens on the north face showcased a stunning bronze pattern that resembled intricate lace. This image received a "Superior" rating in the Intermountain Professional Photographers Competition in 2022 and was one of four photographs that earned me the title of “Photographer of the Year” from the Intermountain Professional Photographers Association.
